COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Since founding of our firm in 1976, we have always felt a strong sense of community and have been dedicated to community service. FF&S encourages all of its personnel, from professional to support staff, to devote time and resources to assisting non-profit organizations in our community. Those services include pro bono legal representation, assuming leadership positions on the Board of Directors of business, civic and other non-profit organizations and volunteering in community events to raise funds and provide support. Some of the representative organizations which we have served include:
The Alliance for Childrens Rights, Pro Bono Task Force
Advocates of The Library Foundation of Los Angeles
California Institute of the Arts
City of Hope
D.A.R.E. America
Leave a Legacy
Los Angeles Jewish Federation
National Committee on Planned Giving
Olive Crest
Pacific Symphony Orchestra
Porrath Foundation for Cancer Patient Advocacy
Ronald McDonald House
Wise Senior Services
FF&S is proud that our professional and support staff are leaders and active participants in our communities through civic, cultural, educational, political, and charitable services, as well as in bar and legal associations which support our industry and our clientele. By volunteering, we not only improve the quality of life within our communities, we also help ourselves and others to live happier, healthier and more productive lives. This is a large part of who we are and what sets us apart from others.

VISION IN PHILANTHROPY AWARDS
In conjunction with our 20th anniversary in 1996, we wanted to find a meaningful way to give back to the community in a larger sense; thus, the inauguration of the Freeman, Freeman & Smiley Vision in Philanthropy Awards. The Vision in Philanthropy Awards were established to honor the entrepreneurs of philanthropy men and women who have devoted incredible time, talent and energy, and committed substantial personal resources, to fulfilling a vision that has enriched our lives, tended to the less fortunate and inspired our highest and noblest aspirations. Since 1996, together with our corporate and individual sponsors, we have paid tribute and provided grants totaling $158,000 to over 25 founders and their organizations and recognized hundreds of others for their contributions to our community.
The Vision in Philanthropy Awards program is now being carried on by our sister company, IFF Advisors, LLC. IFF, a national consulting firm, was established in 2000 to provide long-term strategic planning to individuals and family foundations (both private and support organizations), as well as essential administrative services to facilitate formation and operation of family foundations, donor advised funds, and family philanthropy. For more information about the services they provide or the next Vision In Philanthropy Awards program, please log onto their website at www.iffadvisors.com. FF&S continues to support this valuable program and remains a major sponsor of the event.

FF&S FOUNDATION FOR PHILANTHROPY
In 1998, the Freeman, Freeman & Smiley Foundation for Philanthropy was established by the partners, associates and staff of Freeman, Freeman, & Smiley, LLP as a private foundation exempt from federal income tax under IRC Section 501(c)(3). The purpose of the organization is to promote philanthropy in Southern California, through financial, technical and moral support of worthy charitable organizations. Since its inception, the foundation has hosted several public receptions for the purpose of awarding grants and honoring founders of charitable organizations providing public service in Los Angeles and Orange Counties.

NATIONAL PHILANTHROPY DAY
In 1986, FF&S was proud to initiate and organize National Philanthropy Day, recognized by a Proclamation passed by Congress and signed by President Reagan. It culminated more than five years of effort to recognize the contribution of philanthropy to our nation. Each November, throughout the country, we celebrate the anniversary of National Philanthropy Day.
